They are unable to control their emotions when their child doesn’t turn out the way they expected.
I’m sorry mum, just because I don’t like it when you sling mudpies at PAP does NOT mean that I support PAP. It means that I don’t like it when you put words into other people’s mouths. They never once said that their salaries were too low. They said that their salaries were high to prevent corruption. Even if you were to support the opposition, I don’t give a damn! Because I don’t support either at the moment. I’m just trying to make you think clearly and make an INFORMED decision, rather than having you recklessly vote for the opposition just because you HATE what the PAP is doing, not because you think the opposition can do a better job. And if the opposition doesn’t turn out to be as outstanding as they said they can be, then I’ll have to hear your consistent ear-wrenching moans and groans about how your life sucks and the government isn’t doing anything. Hell, up till yesterday when you saw the posters, you don’t even know the opposition member’s names! But you do know the PAP’s long before the elections. See what I’m getting at?
And what’s this with the hitting me just because I defended PAP? Seriously, WTF? Are you that narrow-minded that you must ensure that everyone under this household follows 1 set of thinking, 1 set of behaviour, 1 set of fashion style, 1 faith? Otherwise, you would resort to violence? First, my decision to find my own God, now my stance in politics? What are you driving at?
I don’t understand why the fact that I have a brain to think for myself, to trust in my own beliefs and act upon them irritates you so much. It’s just…perplexing. Do you think that just because I’m different from everyone else in this family, that it makes you feel like a bad parent? That you are unable to teach your own child? What happened to the times when I was young and you told me to find myself? To be my own person?
It's more about doing something that everyone tells you is wrong, but not caring enough about their opinions to let them phase you. It's about being yourself, even if, by society's standards, it’s "wrong".
